Environmental Vision
Waikato Museum and ArtsPost Galleries and Shop adheres to the vision of the Hamilton City Council which is to have an environmentally conscious workforce and environmentally friendly facilities.
Staff at the Waikato Museum are constantly reviewing and improving practice to ensure that the Waikato Museum operates in an environmentally sensitive manner. We are striving to be a national leader in our industry. We aim to inspire and empower Museum staff, visitors and our community to make changes that help towards a better future for Aotearoa.
Steps the Waikato Museum is taking towards sustainability:
- Composting Museum staff food scraps.
- Recycling paper, cardboard and plastic.
- Designing out the use of MDF in exhibitions.
- Conscious printing.
- Turning off all unused appliances and lights.
- Monitoring brochure print runs closely to ensure minimal waste.
- Recycling of steel.
- Recycling computer and electronic parts.
- Using water based paint only.
- Online marketing wherever possible to minimise paper use.
- Freezing paintbrushes so they don’t have to be washed in-between uses.
- Designing exhibitions to use less power.
The Museum also helps to facilitate promotion of conservation through our exhibitions. For example our Mighty River Waikato exhibition provides a place where people can learn about how they can help our river mighty.
