Booking
Bookings are essential.
To arrange your visit, call Wendy our Museum Administrator on (07) 838 6583. Wendy is very good at helping teachers find the right programme for their group. Alternatively you can email a query to education.museum@hcc.govt.nz.
Class times
Museum class times are 9.30am, 11am or 11.30am and 1pm; other times by arrangement.
Our programmes are typically 1½ hours each, unless otherwise indicated.
For double programmes we recommend a 30-minute break between classes which means your group will be in the Museum for about 3½ hours.
Managing your visit
Before you arrive
- It is helpful for you to have a korero with your class about visiting the Museum environment. Click here to view our guidelines for groups.
- We will send you a confirmation of your booking by email. This email will include health and safety guidelines and a teacher's information sheet about the programme for which you have booked. The email will carry a delivery and read receipt. Please accept the read receipt as this is an important part of our quality control process.
If you are unable to provide us with an email address we will fax you this information. - Please arrange for your group to leave their bags at school or on the bus as we have limited storage in the Museum. If your group is bringing their morning tea or lunch to eat before or after a programme, we suggest you arrange to carry it all in one bag.
When you arrive
- Bring your group to the Schools Entrance at the top right of the Museum. Your educator will meet you at that door.
- We supply any pencils, paper or other equipment that you may need for your visit.
Late arrivals
- We regret that in most cases we cannot extend your lesson time beyond the time that has been booked as our educators have multiple commitments throughout a day.
At the conclusion of your visit
- Please sign off the numbers of children in your group and details of payment with the front-of-house host
- You will receive an evaluation form to complete at your leisure and return in the reply-paid envelope. Please let us know how you found the programme. We appreciate knowing what we are doing well and to hear any suggestions you may have for improvement.
