There are more than 25,000 objects in the Social History Collection which dates from the earliest European voyages to New Zealand to the present day.  The museum collects material relating to Waikato regional history and development. 

Key subject areas include:  Hamilton’s local history and businesses; industries such as dairy, coal mining and timber; organisations and community groups; domestic and personal history and material relating to socio-political trends, issues and events which are of concern to New Zealanders at both a local and national level.
