Theatre Sports

Get involved in drama and theatre sports while learning important techniques that will develop your acting skills and help get you ahead! Be inspired by the museum’s creative environment and act out impromptu scenes in a fun and exciting environment.

Join professional drama teacher, Kylie Reynolds for this action packed hour of comedy and drama. The programme is perfect for children interested in drama, theatre sports and acting. Come along and give it a go!

Nocturnal Tours

When: Tues 11, Thurs 13 October, Tues 18 and Thurs 20 October.                                                                                                                                                                                                
Time:  5.30pm – to approx 8.30pm
Age:  5 – adult.
Cost:  Adults $15, Children $6, Family* $35

Ever wondered what creatures come out at night in Hamilton City? Join bat scientist Darren Le Roux for an informal talk where you’ll learn about Hamilton’s own long-tail bat population! Children can explore the Mighty River Waikato gallery and discover what nocturnal animals live in and around the Waikato River.

Explore Hammonds Park where we’ll go bat spotting using specialised bat detectors. If you’re lucky your might even hear the bats as they come into roost in their man-made roost boxes! We will explore the board-walk and keep our eyes open to look for other nocturnal animals such as glow worms and ruru (morepork)!

The Frog Prince

Dates: Wed 12, Thur 13 October
Time:  11am & 2pm on both days
Cost:  Adults $10, Children $5, Family* $30

Did you ever wish fairy tale characters could become real and step right out of the book? The amazing magical Storybook tells the tale of The Frog Prince like you’ve never seen it before. Bring your imagination and help to re-create this timeless love story about a princess who befriends a horrible, slimy frog only to discover that all is not as it seems!

This is a new idea in children’s theatre especially for primary school kids.

Recyclable weaving

Dates: Tues 11 Oct
Time:  9.30am – 11.30am
Cost:   $10.00

Come and join us at the museum on our recyclable weaving day. Bring along any old fabrics or plastic bags to create your own funky weaving creations that not only look great but are also kind to mother Earth.

Creative Clay

Dates: Tues 18 & Wed 19 October
Time:  9.30am – 11.30am
Cost:  $35.00 (includes both days and clay costs)

Awaken the artist inside you at the Waikato Museum! You will spend the day creating clay animals or figurines; creating your own masterpiece to take home. Discover the world of clay and how you can use it to create beautiful art work.
